BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Star Athletic Association announced their fifteenth edition of the 2024-25 Men’s Basketball Players-of-the-Week Monday. Jamestown (N.D.) swept the weekly honors with Silas Bennion being named as the Offense Player-of-the-Week, while his teammate Owen Hektner was selected as the Defense Player-of-the-Week.
North Star Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week – Offense
Silas Bennion – Jamestown (N.D.) – 6’1" – Senior – guard – Eugene, Ore. – Bennion averaged 21.5 points and 1.5 assists per game as Jamestown (N.D.) went 2-0 record on the road in the North Star Athletic Association action. He scored 18 points on his 6-of-13 field goals, including 3-of-6 3-pointers and 3-of-4 free-throws in UJ’s 75-68 victory at Valley City State (N.D.). He followed up with 25 points on his 10-of-20 field goals and 3-of-5 free throws in Jimmies’ 78-71 win at Mayville State (N.D.). For the week, Bennion totaled 43 points and shot 16-of-33 from the field (48.5 percent).
North Star Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week – Defense
Owen Hektner – Jamestown (N.D.) – 6’8" – Junior – forward – Fargo, N.D. – Hektner averaged 6.0 defensive rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game as Jamestown (N.D.) went 2-0 record on the week in the North Star Athletic Association action. He registered five defensive rebounds, two steals, and a block in UJ’s 75-68 road victory at Valley City State (N.D.). Hektner followed up with seven defensive rebounds and two blocks in Jimmies’ 78-71 win at Mayville State (N.D.).
Recap from last week’s games
Jamestown (N.D.) went 2-0 record on the road in the North Star Athletic Association action last weekend. The Jimmies defeated Valley City State (N.D.) 75-68 on Feb. 7 and held on to defeat Mayville State (N.D.) 78-71 on Feb. 8. UJ improved their overall record to 14-11.
Dickinson State (N.D.) dropped a pair of games on the road, falling to MSU 72-68 on Feb. 7 and VCSU 66-665 on Feb. 8. The Blue Hawks are 14-10 overall record and currently tied for first place in the NSAA standings with the Jimmies with 9-3 conference record each. Mayville State improved to 15-10 overall record and 6-6 NSAA conference record. Valley City State is 12-12 overall record and 3-9 record in the league.
Dakota State (S.D.) earned their third straight conference win after holding off Bellevue (Neb.) 64-62 in Bellevue on Feb. 7. The Trojans improved to 11-12 overall record, while the Bruins are 12-12 overall record. Both teams are tied for fourth in the conference standings with 4-7 league record.
Looking Ahead This Week
The North Star Athletic Association men’s basketball regular-season schedule has two weeks remaining. The top two teams in the conference will battle on Friday evening with Jamestown (N.D.) traveling to Dickinson State (N.D.). Also in action are Valley City State (N.D.) at Bellevue (Neb.) in BU’s new gymnasium called the Bellevue University Fieldhouse, while Dakota State (S.D.) hosts Mayville State (N.D.).
On Saturday, MSU and VCSU swap places with BU and DaSU (MSU at BU and VCSU at DaSU).
