BISMARCK, N.D. – The 2024-25 North Star Athletic Association Commissioner’s Cup was not decided until after the conclusion of the NSAA Women’s and Men’s outdoor track & field championships, which was held in Dickinson, N.D., on May 8-9. The NSAA conference office announced their final commissioner’s cup on Wednesday.
Points were awarded for a school’s finish in season-long standings and at NSAA championship events. A team earned 1.5 points per finish/place in their sport if that sport had a regular-season schedule and a regular-season conference champion. The sports included football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and softball.
A team earned one (1) point counted when teams are competing in a single-event NSAA conference championship. Single-event NSAA conference championship sports included cross country, track & field (indoor and outdoor), and golf.
If there is a tie in the regular season standings (or meet/tournament), the points for the place finishing are added together and divided by the number of teams that tied. An example would be if two teams tied for first, they would each receive 8.25 points (9 plus 7.5 divided by 2 equals 8.25 points). The next place finisher would be awarded the third place points.
Dickinson State (N.D.) closed the conference era by clinching their third consecutive all-sports trophy after sweeping both the women’s and men’s outdoor track & field titles.
Dickinson State claimed the football, women’s indoor track & field, men’s basketball, women’s outdoor track & field, and men’s outdoor track & field conference titles during the 2024-25 season. The Blue Hawks tallied 64 points in the standings, edging Jamestown (N.D.) by a slim margin of 1.25 points.
The Jimmies finished second in the commissioner’s cup standings with 62.75 points, claiming a share of women’s volleyball regular season title and earning the softball regular season outright title.
It was the second straight year that the Blue Hawks won the all-sports trophy by a narrow margin of 1.25 points.
Dakota State (S.D.) finished third with 55.25 points, earning three conference titles (women’s cross country, women’s basketball, and men’s indoor track & field).
Bellevue (Neb.) finished fourth with 51.75 points in the all-sports trophy. The Bruins shared the women’s volleyball regular season title with the Jimmies. BU also won the men’s cross-country title, swept both the women’s and men’s golf conference tournament titles, and added the baseball regular season title.
Valley City State (N.D.) placed fifth with 37.75 points, followed by Mayville State (N.D.) sixth with 28.5 points.
