BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Star Athletic Association announced their No. 11 edition of the 2023-24 Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week Monday.  Emily McCurdy of Viterbo (Wis.) was selected as the Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week.

Emily McCurdy – Viterbo (Wis.) – 5’10” – Junior – forward – St. Croix Falls, Wis. – McCurdy averaged 22.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 steals as Viterbo (Wis.) went 2-0 record in the North Star Athletic Association action at home.  She scored 22 points, collected four rebounds, stole the ball three times, and dished out two assists in V-Hawks 84-80 overtime victory over Valley City State (N.D.).  She followed up with 18 points on her 8-of-13 field goals in VU’s 66-44 win over Dickinson State (N.D.).  For the week, McCurdy was 17-of-33 from the field, 2-of-4 from the 3-point line and made all four free-throw attempts.  She totaled 40 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals.

No. 11 ranked Dakota State (S.D.) won the battle of remaining undefeated teams in the North Star Athletic Association on Jan. 26.  The Trojans rolled past No. 13 ranked Mayville State (N.D.) 71-48, ending the Comets’ 10-game winning streak.  DaSU extended their winning streak to a season-high 10 games and raised their overall record to 18-4 and 6-0 NSAA conference record.

Mayville State pulled away past Bellevue (Neb.) with a fourth-quarter surge on Jan. 27 in Bellevue.  The Comets won by the score of 73-60, improving their overall record to 16-3 and 5-1 record in the league.  The Bruins fell to 10-11 overall record and 3-3 record in the North Star conference after their lone contest for the week.

Viterbo (Wis.) earned a pair of home victories last weekend, defeating Valley City State (N.D.) 84-80 in overtime thriller on Jan. 26 and Dickinson State (N.D.) 66-44 on Jan. 27.  The V-Hawks lifted their overall record to 8-9 and 3-3 NSAA conference record.

The Blue Hawks won the battle for the first league win of the season, defeating Waldorf (Iowa) on the road by the score of 80-71 on Jan. 26.  VCSU also defeated the Warriors by the score of 73-55 on Jan. 27.  The Vikings are 9-11 overall record and 3-3 NSAA conference record, while Dickinson State is 6-14 overall record and 1-5 NSAA conference record.  Waldorf fell to 5-14 overall record and 0-6 record in the league.

Looking Ahead This Week
The North Star Athletic Association kicks off their second half portion of the basketball schedule on Wednesday evening with Valley City State (N.D.) hosting Dickinson State (N.D.).

VCSU then travels to No. 13 Mayville State (N.D.) on Friday night, while DiSU visits MSU on Saturday afternoon.  Viterbo (Wis.) remains home on Friday night, hosting No. 11 Dakota State (S.D.).  Waldorf (Iowa) also stays home Friday evening, welcoming Bellevue (Neb.).

DaSU and BU switch places on Saturday with VU and WU (BU at VU; DaSU at WU).
