BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Star Athletic Association announced their fourth installment (games included from Nov. 18 through Nov. 24) of the 2024-25 Women’s Basketball Players-of-the-Week Tuesday. Mackenzie Hughes of Mayville State (N.D.) swept the Offense and Defense Player-of-the-Week honors.
North Star Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week – Offense & Defense
Mackenzie Hughes – Mayville State (N.D.) – 5’5” – Senior – guard – Thompson, N.D. – Hughes ignited No. 14 ranked Mayville State (N.D.) offensively and defensively as they went 2-0 record for the week. She shot 9-of-14 from the field for 22 points in MSU’s 93-27 rout over Trinity Bible (N.D.). She stole the ball six times in the game. Hughes followed up 30 points on her 11-of-17 field goals and 5-of-6 free-throws in Comets’ 79-63 road victory at NCAA Division II Minot State (N.D.). She grabbed five defensive rebounds in the game and recorded two steals in the game. For the week, Hughes averaged 26.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals, and 3.5 assists per game. She was 20-of-31 from the field, including 6-of-12 from the 3-point line and converted 6-of-8 free-throws.

Mayville State (N.D.), ranked No. 14 in the national poll, went 2-0 record for the week and extended their winning streak to three games. The Comets cruised past Trinity Bible (N.D.) 93-27 on Nov. 19 and earned a 79-63 road victory at Minot State. MSU is 5-1 overall record.
Jamestown (N.D.), receiving votes in the first edition of the NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll, earned an 81-64 home victory over NCAA Division II Minot State (N.D.) on Nov. 19. It was the lone game of the week for the Jimmies who lifted their overall record to 4-1.
Dickinson State (N.D.) fell to 3-4 overall record after their 76-58 road defeat at Montana State University-Northern on Nov. 18. It was the lone game of the week for the Blue Hawks.
Bellevue (Neb.) remained at 5-1 overall record after their 74-50 exhibition game setback to NCAA Division I South Dakota on Nov. 18.
Valley City State (N.D.) also stayed at 6-3 overall record, falling short to NCAA Division II Bemidji State (Minn.) in an exhibition game by the score of 64-61 on Nov. 23.
Dakota State (S.D.), ranked No. 7 in the NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll, was idle last week. The Trojans remain at 3-3 overall record.
Looking Ahead This Week
Bellevue (Neb.) travels to Kansas Wesleyan for a non-conference contest Tuesday (tonight). No. 14 ranked Mayville State (N.D.) welcomes NCAA Division III Mayville State (N.D.), as well as No. 7 ranked Dakota State (S.D.) visits No. 21 ranked Northwestern (Iowa) on the same night.
Dickinson State (N.D.) hosts a tournament during Thanksgiving break with MSU-Northern and (RV) Rocky Mountain (Mont.) on Nov. 29-30. Valley City State (N.D.) will also be in the tournament.
(RV) Jamestown (N.D.) remains home Saturday as they host Midland (Neb.). Dakota State remains on the road, visiting (RV) Morningside (Iowa).
