BROOKINGS, S.D. – The final North Star Athletic Association Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship is set for Sunday at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex (1447 Jackrabbit Ave.) in Brookings on the campus of NCAA Division I South Dakota State.
Dickinson State (N.D.) is seeking to extend the conference program’s record streak of seven consecutive team title. The Blue Hawks scored 240 points in last year’s conference meet, followed by Dakota State (S.D.) second with 182 points.
DiSU takes an early lead after one event in the pentathlon with 16 points. DaSU followed up with second place in the standings with 12 points, and Valley City State (N.D.) third with five points.
Kaitlyn McColly of Dickinson State became a three-time North Star pentathlon champion after scoring 3,570 points. Amelie Steins of Dakota State was the runner-up with 3,164 points, followed by DiSU’s Faith Brennan third with 3,134 points.
Emma Muggli of Valley City State finished fourth with 2,906 points, followed by Casey Olson fifth with 2,578 points.
The field event gets underway at 10 a.m. with the high jump. The first running event is slated for 11 a.m. with the 5000-meter run.
The North Star Athletic Association Champions of Character presentation is scheduled for 2:15 p.m.
The last running event is at 3:55 p.m. with the 4 x 400-meter relay, followed by the awards ceremony at 4:25 p.m.
The top three individual place finishers and top two relay events will receive All-Conference recognition.
The top eight place finishers in each event will score 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.
