BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) announced their second edition of the softball weekly conference honors Monday. Jamestown (N.D.) swept the weekly honors as Maddie Hairgrove was selected as the Pitcher-of-the-Week, while her teammate Maddie Spaeth was named as the Player-of-the-Week.
North Star Athletic Association Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week
Maddie Hairgrove – Jamestown (N.D.) – Freshman – pitcher – Tucson, Ariz. – Hairgrove went 5-0 record in the pitching circle as Jamestown (N.D.) went 10-1 record for the week in Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational. She posted an earned run average of 1.58 in six relief appearances. Hairgrove worked for 17 2/3 innings for the week, allowing four earned runs on 16 hits. She recorded 12 strikeouts for the week.
North Star Athletic Association Softball Player-of-the-Week
Maddie Spaeth – Jamestown (N.D.) – Junior – shortstop – Sabin, Minn. – Spaeth posted a batting average of .447, a slugging percentage of .684, and an on-base percentage of .476 as Jamestown (N.D.) went 10-1 record for the week in Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational. She produced eight extra bases hits, five multi-hit games, and three multi-RBI games. Spaeth was 17-of-38 at the plate with seven doubles and a triple. She drove in 15 runs for the week.

Jamestown (N.D.) went 10-1 record during the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational last week. The Jimmies defeated La Sierra (Calif.) and Arizona Christian 13-5 on March 3. UJ extended their winning streak after defeating Concordia (Mich.) and St. Francis (Ill.) on Tuesday, No. 10 ranked Madonna (Mich.) and No. 4 ranked Northwestern (Iowa) on March 5, St. Francis on March 6, and Concordia (Mich.) on March 8. The Jimmies’ winning streak came to an end after falling to No. 4 ranked Northwestern (Iowa) on March 8. UJ closed the tournament with a pair of wins on March 9, defeating William Penn (Iowa) and Park-Gilbert (Ariz.). Jamestown is 16-9 overall record.
Dickinson State was 2-3 record last weekend in the Tucson Invitational. The Blue Hawks fell to No. 4 Northwestern (Iowa) 9-0 and Ottawa (Ariz.) on March 8. DiSU defeated Concordia (Mich.) 5-4 on March 8 and Viterbo (Wis.) 5-3 on March 9. Dickinson State is 11-6 overall record after falling to Park-Gilbert (Ariz.) 13-4 on March 9.
Valley City State (N.D.) kicked off the Tucson Invitational with a 2-1 setback to Concordia (Mich.) on March 7. The Vikings earned a 7-4 victory over No. 4 ranked Northwestern (Iowa) and 8-7 win over St. Francis (Ill.) on March 8. VCSU extended their winning streak to four games after defeating Viterbo 13-3 and Park (Mo.) 8-4 on March 9. Valley City State is 9-8 overall record.
Bellevue (Neb.), ranked No. 25 in the national poll, went 1-4 record in the Tucson invitational last week. The Bruins fell to No. 6 ranked Madonna (Mich.) 7-6 on March 3 and St. Francis (Ill.) 7-1 on March 4. BU defeated No. 11 ranked Northwestern (Iowa) 8-2 on March 4. Bellevue evented their overall record to 9-9 after falling the last two games in the tournament to No. 10 ranked Madonna 8-2 and Concordia (Mich.) 6-0 on March 6.
Dakota State (S.D.) was also idle last week, staying at 3-15 overall record. Mayville State was also idle last week with 3-13 overall record.
Looking Ahead
Valley City State (N.D.) continues their action in the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational with six games scheduled from Tuesday through Thursday. Dickinson State (N.D.) also continues their action in Tucson with five games scheduled. Mayville State (N.D.) is set for a full week of contests in Tucson from Monday through Saturday.
Dakota State (S.D.) will play a single game with Mount Marty (S.D.) on Tuesday afternoon.
No. 25 Bellevue (Neb.) returns home Friday for a doubleheader with MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.).
Jamestown (N.D.) won’t return to action until March 29-30 as they open the North Star conference season with a four-game series at home versus Mayville State.
