Dakota State (S.D.) takes early lead in the NSAA Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship

Trojans sweep top three heptathlon event, collect 24 points after one point in team standings

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) took the early lead after one event in the heptathlon in the 2024 North Star Athletic Association Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championships.  The conference indoor track & field championship meet takes place at Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex (1447 Jackrabbit Ave.) on the campus of NCAA Division I South Dakota State, which is also the site for the 2024 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 29-March 2.

The Trojans collected 24 points in the heptathlon event, with three athletes placing in the top three.  Treshawn Roberts won his third consecutive NSAA heptathlon title, his fourth title in the past five years.  He finished with 4,908 points.  Chantz Minear finished second with 4,817 points, followed by Caleb Roberts with a third-place finish after scoring 3,776 points.

The Trojans had won two consecutive NSAA men’s indoor track & field team titles and their fourth team titles in the previous five conference meets prior to Sunday’s meet.
Dickinson State (N.D.) scored five points in the heptathlon after Carl Askins placed fourth with 3,742 points.  Nolan Reynolds of Waldorf (Iowa) finished fifth with 3,009 points, scoring four points for the Warriors in the team standings.

The pole vault, weight throw, and long jump events kick off the conference meet on Sunday morning at 9 a.m.  The high jump will follow the women’s high jump at 9 a.m.
The 5000-meter run gets underway with the running event at 10:15 a.m.  The women’s division will run first, followed by the men’s division. 

The North Star Athletic Association Champions of Character recipient presentation is scheduled for 2:15 p.m.  The last running event is set for 3:55 p.m. with the 4 x 400-meter relay, followed by the awards ceremony at 4:25 p.m.

The top eight place finishers in each event will score 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.

The top three individual place finishers and top two relay events will receive medals.  The top three performers in the individual events at the North Star Championships, as well as the top two relay teams, will be honored as All-Conference.
