2025 NSAA Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship scheduled for Sunday in Brookings

Three-time NSAA defending champion Dakota State (S.D.) takes early lead with 24 points

BROOKINGS, S.D.  – The 2025 North Star Athletic Association Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 16, at Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex (1447 Jackrabbit Ave.) in Brookings on the campus of NCAA Division I South Dakota State.  This will be the final NSAA men’s indoor track & field championship.

Dakota State (S.D.) took the early lead after the heptathlon event.  The Trojans scored 24 points to take the lead in the men’s team standings, followed by Dickinson State (N.D.) second with 13 points.  Jamestown (N.D.) is third with two points.

DaSU claimed the top two places in the heptathlon, led by Chantz Minear who won the title with 5,038 points.  Tysen Grinde finished second with 4,611 points.

Garin Opdahl of DiSU was third with 4,385 points, followed by Caden Gortmaker of DaSU fourth with 4,353 points.  Ty Leischner was fifth with 4,073 points, while Carl Askins added sixth place with 3,886 points for the Blue Hawks.

Cael Church of Jamestown was seventh after scoring 3,717 points.  Bergen Irey of Dakota State rounded the top eight after tallying 3,595 points.

DaSU had won the last three conference men’s team titles, and five titles in the last six indoor track & field conference meet.  The Trojans established the conference meet record of 296 points in last year’s conference meet.

The pole vault, weight throw, and long jump are set to start at 10 a.m.  The first running event is set for 11 a.m. with the 5000-meter run.

The North Star Athletic Association Men’s Indoor Track & Field Champions of Character presentation will be set for 2:15 p.m.

The final running event is scheduled for 3:55 p.m. with the 4 x 400-meter relay, followed by the awards ceremony which is slated for 4:25 p.m.

The top eight place finishers in each event will score 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.

The top three individual place finishers and top two relay event teams will be named NSAA All-Conference.
