BROOKINGS, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) dominated from start to finish, paving their way to another new North Star Athletic Association conference meet record 296 points to claim the 2024 indoor track & field team title at Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex. It was the third consecutive team title for the Trojans, their fifth team title in the last six years.
Dickinson State (N.D.) finished second with 168 points. Valley City State (N.D.) edged Viterbo (Wis.) 80-74 to finish third. Waldorf (Iowa) was fifth with 46 points, followed by Bellevue (Neb.) sixth with five points.
The scoring system is set for top eight place finishers on 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis.
Jaiden Peraza of Valley City State was named the NSAA Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Meet. He scored a total of 28 points in the field events, collecting two jumping titles in the long jump (6.86 meters – 22 feet, 6.25 inches) and the high jump (2.02 meters – 6 feet, 7.5 inches). He was second in the triple jump with a leap of 13.44 meters (44 feet, 1.25 inches).
Jalen Anderson of Viterbo earned the NSAA Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Meet. He was also voted by the conference’s head coaches as the Men’s Indoor Track & Field Most Valuable Athlete. Anderson won three individual titles at the conference meet, winning the 60-meter dash in 6.85 seconds, 60-meters hurdles in an exciting finish with a new conference meet record time of 7.98 seconds, and the 200-meter dash in 21.77 seconds.
Anthony Drealan of Dakota State was chosen as the conference’s Coach-of-the-Year award for the third straight year, leading the Trojans to eight different event titles as well as a sweep (top 3) in the 800-meters and heptathlon events.
The official list of the North Star Athletic Association Indoor Track & Field All-Conference will be announced Tuesday.
