BROOKINGS, S.D. – Despite falling behind in the morning session to Dickinson State (N.D.), Dakota State (S.D.) overtook the lead and racked up 253 points to capture their fourth consecutive North Star Athletic Association Men’s Indoor Track & Field conference title. It was the Trojans sixth title in the last seven seasons.
Dickinson State finished second with 200.5 points, followed by Valley City State (N.D.) third with 87 points. Bellevue (Neb.) placed fourth, while Jamestown (N.D.) was fifth with 45.5 points.
The scoring system is set for top eight place finishers on 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis.
Dakota State swept the postseason awards. Tysen Grinde was named the NSAA Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Meet, scoring 27 points in the field events. He was first in the high jump (1.98 meters – 6 feet, 6 inches), second in the heptathlon, third in the long jump (6.36 meters – 20 feet, 10.5 inches), and sixth in the triple jump (12.30 meters – 40 feet, 4.25 inches).
Lukas Bennett was awarded the NSAA Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Meet, scoring the most points in the running events with 25 points. He captured the 60-meter dash (6.88 seconds) and 200-meter dash (22.15 seconds) titles, fourth in the 400-meter dash (51.04 seconds), and was a member of the 4 x 400-meter relay champion team (3:26.32).
Chantz Minear was voted by the league head coaches as the NSAA Men’s Indoor Track & Field Most Valuable Athlete. Notably, he scored 40 total points combined in both the field and running events in the conference meet for the Trojans.
Anthony Drealan of Dakota State was chosen as the league’s Coach-of-the-Year award for the fourth straight year, leading the Trojans to eight different event titles.
The official list of the North Star Athletic Association Indoor Track & Field All-Conference will be announced Tuesday.
