Top-seeded Bellevue (Neb.) wins 2024 NSAA Men's Basketball Championship

Bruins adavnce to NAIA National Tournament First and Second Rounds on March 15-16

BISMARCK, N.D. – Bellevue (Neb.) claimed the top spot of the logged-jammed North Star Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Postseason Tournament, which starts the quarterfinals round on Wednesday evening.  The Bruins claimed the sole possession of the league title with a conference record of 8-4 (13-15 overall record).

Bellevue received a first round bye and will play in the semifinals round on Sunday, Feb. 25.  The game times will be announced after each round.

Mayville State (N.D.) clinched the No. 2 seed in the postseason tournament with an overall record of 19-8 and 7-5 NSAA conference record.

There was a four-way tie for third place at 6-6 record by Waldorf (Iowa), Dakota State (S.D.), Viterbo (Wis.), and Dickinson State (N.D.).  The Warriors (11-15 overall record) owned the tiebreaker after holding a 4-2 record within the four teams and will be the No. 3 seed.  The Trojans (16-12 overall record) and the V-Hawks (12-15 overall record) were tied at 3-3 record each.  Dakota State broke the tie via head-to-head versus Waldorf with 1-1 record compared to Viterbo 0-2 record versus WU.  DaSU will be the No. 4 seed and VU as No. 5 seed.

The Blue Hawks (15-12 overall record) will be the No. 6 seed with 2-4 record within four teams' tie.

Valley City State (N.D.) (11-15 overall record, 3-9 NSAA conference) rounded out the seeding at No. 7 seed.

The quarterfinals round open on Wednesday with Waldorf hosting Dickinson State, Dakota State welcoming Viterbo, and Valley City State traveling to Mayville State.

Sunday’s semifinals will feature Bellevue hosting the winner of VU-DaSU and winners between VCSU-MSU and DiSU-WU at the higher seed.

The North Star Athletic Association men’s basketball postseason championship game will be held on Sunday, March 3 at the highest remaining seed.

The NSAA postseason tournament champion earns an automatic bid to the NAIA Men’s Basketball National Tournament’s opening round.  The national tournament four-teams pod first- and second rounds are scheduled for March 15-16.

The winners of the NAIA’s opening round will advance to the final site at the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo., on March 21-26.
