McColly set NSAA Women’s Outdoor Multi-Events conference meet record

Heptathlon faced rainy, wet conditions on second day at The Dan Beacom Track Complex

MADISON, S.D. – Despite rainy and wet conditions Tuesday afternoon on the second day of the 2024 North Star Athletic Association Multi-Events Championships at The Dan Beacom Track Complex, Kaitlyn McColly of Dickinson State (N.D.) established a new conference meet record in the heptathlon.

The heptathlon athletes from three different schools competed in the long jump, javelin, and the 800-meter run on the second day.

McColly piled up 4,682 points to win the NSAA women’s heptathlon title, the fourth straight year that the Blue Hawks had won the heptathlon title.  She broke the previous NSAA conference meet record held by Kaianna Arellano of Jamestown (N.D.) with 4,529 points in 2018.

Katya Baranko of Dickinson State finished second with 3,796 points, edging Valley City State’s (N.D.) Emma Muggli with 3,781 points.  Amelie Steins of Dakota State (S.D.) was fourth with 3,528 points.  Adarra Hagelund of DiSU was fifth with 3,267 points.  Casey Olson of DaSU was sixth with 2,121 points.

Dickinson State currently leads the North Star Athletic Association Women’s Outdoor Track & Field standings with 22 points.  Dakota State is second in the standings after scoring eight points in the heptathlon, followed by Valley City State third with six points. 

The 2024 NSAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at The Dan Beacom Track Complex in Madison on May 9-10.
