NSAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships set for Thursday & Friday in Madison, S.D.

Dickinson State women's and Dakota State men's take early lear in the team standings

MADISON, S.D. – The last conference sports championship of the 2023-24 season is set for Thursday and Friday.  The two-day North Star Athletic Association Women’s & Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set to be held at The Dan Beacom Track Complex (1302 N. Washington Ave.), hosted by Dakota State (S.D.).

The conference meet kicks off Thursday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. (Central Time) with the men’s javelin.  The day continues at 2:30 p.m. with more field events, while the running events are slated to start at 3 p.m.

The second day of the conference championship meet is set for Friday at 10 a.m. with the field events, followed by the running events at 12 p.m.

The North Star Athletic Association Champions of Character recipients will be announced at 1:25 p.m.  The post-meet awards ceremony will be held at 4:05 p.m.

Dickinson State (N.D.) looks to extend their current conference record of six consecutive women’s team titles (7th team title in the previous eight years).  The Blue Hawks lead the team standings with 22 points after the multi-events championships that were held at The Dan Beacom Track Complex on April 15-16.

Kaitlyn McColly of DiSU won the NSAA heptathlon title by scoring a new conference meet record of 4,682 points, breaking the previous record of 4,529 points held by Kaiann Arellano of Jamestown (N.D.) during the 2018 conference meet.

Dakota State is second in the women’s team standings with eight points, followed by Valley City State (N.D.) third with six points.

On the men’s division, the Trojans had won the previous four North Star conference team title after hitting the conference meet record of 310 points last season.
Dakota State scored a total of 29 points after dominating the NSAA men’s decathlon, with four athletes placing in the top four spots. 

Treshawn Roberts won the NSAA decathlon title for the second time in the past three seasons.  He set a new conference meet record of 6,611 points, breaking the previous record of 6,478 points by Cleet Wrzesinski of DiSU in 2021 conference meet. 

Waldorf (Iowa) is second in the men’s team standings with four points, followed by Dickinson State third with three points.

The NSAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are scored in eight places in all events (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1).  The All-Conference performances need to be placed in the top three in individual events and top two in the relay events.
