BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Star Athletic Association announced their sixth edition of the Outdoor Track & Field weekly honors Tuesday. Dickinson State (N.D.) swept the women’s weekly honors with Adarra Hagelund being named the Field Athlete-of-the-Week, while her teammate Kaitlyn McColly was selected for the Track Athlete-of-the-Week award. Lukas Bennett of Dakota State (S.D.) was chosen as the Men’s Track Athlete-of-the-Week for the second straight week. There were no nominees for the Men’s Field Athlete-of-the-Week.
North Star Athletic Association Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Adarra Hagelund – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Junior – Soldotna, Alaska – Hagelund finished seventh in the championship (elite) division at the Drake Relays in the high jump for Dickinson State (N.D.). She was the only NAIA competitor in the field against NCAA Division I and professional jumpers. Hagelund cleared the high jump of 1.73 meters (5 feet, 8 inches) to place seventh in the event. Her high jump mark is the NAIA ‘A’ automatic qualifying mark. Hagelund already held the best high jump mark in the NAIA earlier this season at 1.80 meters (5 feet, 10.75 inches) at the Al Bortke Open on April 6.

North Star Athletic Association Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Kaitlyn McColly – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Senior – Hinsdale, Mont. – McColly won the 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division II meet, the University of Mary Senior Day Open, for Dickinson State (N.D.). She was the top hurdler in the prelims with a time of 14.20 seconds. McColly established her career best time of 14.05 seconds, winning the title in the final. Her time ranks 11
th in the NAIA women’s 100-meter hurdles.
North Star Athletic Association Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Lukas Bennett – Dakota State (S.D.) – Sophomore – Mitchell, S.D. – Bennett won the individual title at the Mount Marty (S.D.) Twilight meet for Dakota State (S.D.). He set a personal record time of 10.66 seconds to place second in the race, which puts him the fastest time in the North Star Athletic Association’s 100-meter dash. Bennett also won the 200-meter dash title with a time of 21.61 seconds in the same meet. He tied the ninth fastest time in DaSU’s school history of the 200-meter dash and ranks first in the NSAA. A few days later, Bennett ran the 400-meter leg on the distance medley relay team at the Drake Relays that posted the ninth fastest time in school history (10 minutes, 34.94 seconds).
Looking Ahead
The North Star Athletic Association outdoor track & field season is heading to their final regular season meets this week.
Dakota State (S.D.) will run in two different meets, the Maverick Open #1 hosted by NCAA Division II Minnesota State-Mankato on Wednesday. The Trojans will also compete in the NCAA Division I meet, the University of South Dakota Tune-up meet in Vermillion, S.D., on Friday and Saturday. Bellevue (Neb.) will also be at the USD Tune up meet.
Dickinson State (N.D.) returns to Bismarck, N.D., Wednesday for the Marauder-Mystics Tune up, hosted by NCAA Division II Mary (N.D.) and future NAIA’s member Bismarck State (N.D.). Jamestown (N.D.) and Valley City State (N.D.) are also scheduled to compete in the same meet.
The Jimmies close out their regular season schedule on Saturday in the Cobber Open in Moorhead, Minn., hosted by NCAA Division III Concordia (Minn.).
